There are a few things to look for when purchasing rubber tracks for Gehl tracked skidsteers and mini excavators. The main three tips are as follows:
- Continuous Steel Cord
- 100% Virgin Rubber
- OEM Metal Cleat Style
The continuous steel cord will prevent the tracks from stretching or separating. Some aftermarket rubber tracks have a bonded cord and over time, the cords will separate causing the track to become too loose and derail. An estimated 85% of rubber track failures are a result of non-continuous steel cord tracks.
Some aftermarket companies use recycled rubber in their tracks. It is important to get quality 100% new rubber to prevent track failure. Rubber tracks are mainly used in harsh conditions and needs to have very good strength.
Gehl skidsteers use a cleat style that is unlike Bobcat, John Deere, Cat, Case, etc. On the inside of the Gehl rubber track, there are square metal blocks where the rollers ride. This will prevent rocks from crushing the rubber due to the weight of the rollers on the track. A Gehl skidsteer rubber track will look like the picture below:
The other cheaper style looks like the image below.
Gehl Skidsteer rubber tracks come in a variety of widths from 12" to 18". There are sometimes different tread pattern options available from a staggered block to a more aggressive straight bar. Gehl Mini Excavator Rubber Tracks generally have a standard offset staggered block pattern for a smooth ride.
The Gehl CTL70, CTL75, CTL80, CTL85 take a 18" wide (450mm) track whereas a Gehl CTL55, CTL60, CTL65 take a 13" (320mm) wide track. Gehl excavators can take from a 7" (180mm) track up to a 18" (450mm) width track.
